So I’ve been posting a little light this week because I’ve been in San Antonio on business. Now that the work is done, and I’m heading home, I thought I’d post just a few pictures of the highlights…
First up is the historic Menger Hotel, where I was staying. Built in 1859, this hotel was frequented by many famous people, among them Teddy Roosevelt and Mae West. It’s a nice hotel, though I was underwhelmed by their restaurant, and its old design makes the upper floors somewhat confusing. In the picture you can also see the King’s X, a lovely little shop that sells high quality toy soldiers:

Right next to the Menger is the Alamo, site of the famous battle and now a shrine and museum to it:

The Alamo is still a solemn and sacred place, where people speak in whispers and cameras are not allowed. The grounds of the Alamo include a nice park and several historic buildings.
My favorite part of San Antonio, though, is the famous Riverwalk! Numerous restaurants and shops line a section of the San Antonio river, and in January the weather is typically mild enough to eat outside:

The actual walkway is one story below the street level of downtown San Antonio, making it a welcome shelter from the city’s hustle and bustle. It was developed as apart of a flood control solution in the 1920s and 1930s. Plenty of information can be found at the official website.
So this is what I’ve been doing this week! I’ll get more active with posting again next week…
