How many actors have two LEGO minifigs?

So yesterday I learned that there is a Bricks & Minifigs store in my area, and I had to check it out. LEGO has become so huge in recent years that official LEGO stores are no longer enough, so you get these great LEGO resale stores, where you can hunt down a wide variety of minifigs. I picked up a few just for fun, but that’s not the point of this post!

While I was there, I was astounded to see that there were actual LEGO sets made based on the 2010 Prince of Persia movie starring Jake Gyllenhaal, which has to be one of LEGO’s most ill-advised licenses ever.

But then a weird thought occurred to me: this means Jake Gyllenhaal has had minifigs made of two characters that he has played, because he also played Mysterio in Spider Man: Far From Home, which had its own LEGO sets!

Because of the way my brain works, I started wondering: how many actors have had more than one movie character represented by LEGO minifigs? I thought that there couldn’t be many, but in fact there are a surprising number! Because this was my obsession for the better part of a day, let me make it yours as well.

A couple of ground rules to begin: first, we don’t count minifigs made of the same character from different movies. (That one should be obvious.) Second, we only count minifigs that are really unambiguously portraying a specific actor’s portrayal of a character, though it doesn’t have to be an official movie tie-in. And with that, let’s go…

The first one I immediately thought of is Samuel L. Jackson, because of course he has played Nick Fury, and Nick has appeared in multiple LEGO Avengers movie tie-ins. Just for fun, here’s Nick Fury in a limited edition Captain Marvel bag:

And he also played Mace Windu in the Star Wars prequel movies, which resulted in a LOT of LEGO sets!

Obviously the Star Wars – Marvel pipeline is gonna be a big one. Let’s stick with Star Wars for a moment, and we can mention Laura Dern, who played Vice Admiral Holdo in The Last Jedi, and was featured as a minifig:

But, of course, Laura Dern is also Ellie Satler in Jurassic Park, and has been featured as a minifig!

You know what this Jurassic Park set is missing, though? Jeff Goldblum as Dr. Ian Malcolm, but fortunately other sets have him:

Goldblum also played the Grandmaster in Thor Ragnarok, though!

Thor Ragnarok also featured Cate Blanchett as the main villain Hela:

Cate Blanchett also played Galadriel in The Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit movies, and at least appeared in one set for The Hobbit:

As long as we’re talking Tolkien, we can mention Orlando Bloom, who played Legolas in the LOTR movies, who appeared in The Mines of Moria set:

Orlando Bloom also played Will Turner in the Pirates of the Caribbean movies, so he is immortalized in minifigs there!

Pirates of the Caribbean also includes Johnny Depp as Captain Jack Sparrow. Okay, here’s where things get a little weird: he also played Tonto in the 2013 movie The Lone Ranger, which inexplicably got a lot of LEGO sets:

(Not actually inexplicable, because like The Prince of Persia earlier, it is a Disney project, and LEGO and Disney are really close.)

Hey, you know who else was in The Lone Ranger? Helena Bonham Carter, as Red!

Now let’s see, can I think of anywhere else that Helena Bonham Carter has appeared…

Oh yeah she played Bellatrix Lestrange in Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows!

While I’m on Harry Potter, we know that Robert Pattinson played Cedric Diggory…

… aaaaand Robert Pattinson played Batman in The Batman, and he has his own minifig!

When we start talking about Batmen, things start to speed up a bit. Let’s start with Michael Keaton’s 1989 Batman, where we have a few options, but this simple Batmobile will do the trick!

Michael Keaton also played the Vulture in Spider-Man: Homecoming!

Then, of course, we’ve got Christian Bale Batman…

And Bale played Gorr the God Butcher in Thor: Love and Thunder!

Turning back to Star Wars, we’ve missed an easy one! Harrison Ford of course played Han Solo, and appeared in many sets:

… and he played Indiana Jones, who has been featured in a few recent sets!

But who is that in the LEGO Escape from the Lost Tomb set? Is that John Rhys-Davies, who played Sallah? Didn’t he also play Gimli in The Lord of the Rings?

Also in The Lord of the Rings, Christopher Lee played Saruman, who is featured in the Tower of Orthanc set that I wish I had bought:

… aaaaand back to Star Wars, we’ve got Christopher Lee as Count Dooku!

There’s one recent set that opens a whole new can of worms, so to speak. Let me note that Zendaya played MJ in the recent Marvel Spider-Man movies, and she appears in the Far From Home set I posted earlier. But she also plays Chani in the 2020 Dune movie, which now has its own set!

We’ll go far with this set alone! Jason Momoa is in it as Duncan Idaho, but Jason Momoa is also Aquaman in the recent movies:

Josh Brolin’s Gurney Halleck is also in the Dune set, and of COURSE Josh Brolin played Thanos!

Also in the Dune set we have Stellan Skarsgard as Baron Harkonen, but he also appears in the Marvel movies as Doctor Erik Selvig, and his minifig made its first appearance in the recently released and massive Avengers Tower:

We’re still not done with Dune, and now a big one! The LEGO set also includes Leto Atreides, played by Oscar Isaac. He also played Poe Dameron in the sequel Star Wars trilogy,

… and he played Moon Knight for the series on Disney+, and that character had two minifigs appear in the recent Marvel minifig series 2!

(This is definitely the TV series version of Moon Knight; note the goldfish tank.)

And we’ve still got more actors to consider! Going back to the Jurassic, we have Chris Pratt who played Owen Grady in Jurassic World:

Chris Pratt is also famous for playing Starlord in the Guardians of the Galaxy movies!

Okay, getting close to the end (at least of what I have found). Let’s turn back to Indiana Jones, and note that Alfred Molina played the ill-fated Satipo, which folks can recreate with the Temple of the Golden Idol:

But Molina also played Otto Octavius, most recently in Spider-Man: No Way Home!

But — and this could really blow your mind — Alfred Molina also played Sheik Amar in Prince of Persia, immortalized in minifig presiding over this ostrich race!

Let me wrap up here with three more examples! We have Andy Serkis playing Ulysses Klaue in Black Panther!

But, of course, Andy Serkis also played Gollum in The Lord of the Rings!

We have Ben Kingsley as The Mandarin in Iron Man 3…

… aaaand Ben Kingsley as Nizam in… Prince of Persia. (The guy with the dagger by the glowing thing.)

Finally, my absolute favorite! We have Wayne Knight, who played Newman on Seinfeld, featured in the special Seinfeld LEGO set:

And we also have Wayne Knight as poor Dennis Nedry, eaten before his time in Jurassic Park!

Okay, I hope you’ve enjoyed this very odd excursion! If you figure out any others I’ve missed, let me know!

****************************

PS this one may be a bit of a cheat, but why not include Temuera Morrison as Jango Fett…

… and Temuera Morrison as Boba Fett! (Not gonna include him as every clone.)

Post-postscript: Oh hell, here’s one more. Zoe Saldana at Neytiri in the Avatar movie:

Saldana also, of course, played Gamora in the Guardians of the Galaxy movies!

Update 1: Just as I posted this, I realized that Johnny Depp also has 3 minifigs, because he also appeared as Grindelwald in The Crimes of Grindelwald!

Update 2: Okay, first of all, I missed a HUGE one, which should have been obvious! Natalie Portman was Padme in the prequel trilogy:

… and she was Mighty Thor in Thor Love and Thunder!

It’s probably dangerous to extend this line of questioning to animated characters, but several people have pointed out that Chris Pratt was Emmet in The LEGO Movie, which bring the number of minifig characters for Pratt to three!

Along this line of thinking, one more occurred to me: Chris Evans played Captain America in, well, every Marvel movie:

… but he also played Buzz in Lightyear!

Okay, that’s all for now!
